Please look at the history here:
The Marines have long been promoted as the toughest of the American fighting forces. In this c. 1942 WWII poster entitled, "Tell it to the Marines," both the Marine and the factory worker raise their tools. The message promotes the factory worker as being as tough as the Marine as both prepare to avenge Japanese attacks. This is a rare WWII poster that saw a very low print run during World War II. "Tell it to the Marines" is a catchphrase popularized in America during World War I, by James Montgomery Flagg's 1917 recruitment poster entitled, "Tell That To The Marines." The insinuation is that the Marines are tough enough to take care of any problem. The catchphrase was further popularized by Al Jolson's 1918 recording, whose album cover re-enacted the Flagg poster. By the outbreak of World War II, the phrase was a major theme for recruitment and continues to this day. This is an Original Vintage Posters; it is not a reproduction.
