    This vintage original WWII era Women’s Army Corps recruiting poster featuring the artwork and design of German born American illustrator Wilhelm Jes Schlaikjer was issued in 1944. A woman in WAC uniform looks to the sky as if inspired by a higher power. Images of battle and soldiers silhouetted in combat meld into a dreamlike background behind her with the opening line to Julia Ward Howe’s Civil War patriotic anthem printed across the top of the poster –

    This poster is not normally found in this 25” x 19” size. The lower right hand corner has a Union Made emblem and is printed “Brown & Bigelow, St. Paul, Minn. U.S.A.”. This vintage original poster has no tape or pinholes and was probably never hung up or used. The poster has about two inches of separation without loss at the top of the vertical center fold line and the lower corners are faintly creased. Overall condition is very good for this vintage original.
