    Description

    A print of the painting of the United States aircraft carrier USS HORNET, dated 1942 by Gordon Grant on heavy paper. It measures 17.5" x 20". The captions reads: "Cordially yours, John B Hawley Jr"  on the right, with "Northern Pump Company Collection ©1942" on the left. This colorful scene shows the carrier out to sea with other ships and planes from the carrier group in the background. You may remember this ship from the famous battle of Midway, and it was also the launching ship for the Doolittle raid.  It was the last US carrier sunk in WW2 at the battle of Santa Cruz Islands at Guadalcanal.
